A Top 10 Bestseller from a New York Times Bestselling Author!

England, 1673 The Ashcroft family motto is "Question Convention," and eldest sister Violet agrees with the sentiment completely. For one thing, she's not planning to marry. Plain Violet is smart enough to realize any suitors would be after her large inheritance, or else interested in her beautiful younger sisters—and she'd much rather spend her time improving her mind than risking her tender heart...

Having wasted six years wooing a lady who eloped with another man, Ford Chase, Viscount Lakefield, has had it with women. Ford would much rather spend his time pursuing the sciences and constructing the first watch with a minute hand. Having his young niece dropped in his lap proves an unwelcome, annoying distraction...until an uncommonly intelligent neighbor named Violet comes to help...

Violet Chase Family Series The Flowers Book 1 edition by Lauren Royal Literature Fiction eBooks

What an enchanting story! I adored the h/h a-lot. Tho towards the end the heroine was over doing it a bit in my opinion, but maybe it added to the story for some. The secondary characters were wonderful and I must say, a much later Jewel/Rowan story would be a fun read considering where they begin.
Overall the story read a decent pace with enough detail to give you the full scope and not over doing it. I was intrigued greatly by the back drop of King Charles in exile, the Royal Society, inventor/gentleman for our hero. The steamy scenes with our h/h were great, making you wish the hero would show you what ardor was. A great read that I highly recommend!

Violet Chase Family Series The Flowers Book 1 edition by Lauren Royal Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Violet Trentingham was a wonderful character. She was not described as gorgeous and sensual. She was a well educated young woman from a good family who was very aware and satisfied with her normalcy. Ford Chase was an interesting man and although thought of as extremely handsome, did not pay much attention to anything as much as he did his science and his time spent with family and his many friends, well known men in all manner of intellectual pursuits.

Chase was also very fond of women and they were fond of him. Unfortunately for them, they were not his favorite pursuit

Deciding that he would like to focus on a particular invention he was trying to wrap up, he decided to visit a property he owned which he had let go and it looked like it. But the property would be perfect for his use and he wasn't too concerned about the lack of care, just that it was functional was fine with him.

While on his way, he made a stop at one of his brothers estates to let them know where he would be living until he finished his project. His brother's village was suffering through an outbreak of measles at the time and his wife and young son had come down with the measles. His older brother begged him to take his young daughter Jewel, with him to his home Lakefield, until the disease had run its course. He agreed to send the child's nurse with her to provide the child's care so his work would not be interrupted. How could he decline?

Unfortunately, just prior to their arrival to Lakefield, he realized the nurse was ill as well. Chase decided to literally stop the coach and instruct the driver to deliver the nurse to her family's home and he and Jewel walked the short distance to Lakefield.

Thus began the many responsibilities of a 6 year old little girl. Chase realized he needed something to keep the child occupied during the day so he could work. Luckily for Chase the Lady of the neighboring estate stops to welcome him and realizing his dilemma, offers for her son of similar age to visit during the day to play with Jewel.

Delighted with what appears to be the perfect solution he readily agrees. Little does he know she is very well known for her match making and she has 3, all very different, unmarried daughters. Her eldest, Violet is a serious young woman interested in philosophy and no interest to marry. Unknown to Chase, she will send Violet with her little brother Rowan to oversee his behavior during his visit. The integration of these four characters is charming and very funny.

What develops is a lovely story with wonderful representations of the era, lots of quirky lovable characters and very interesting representation of "country life" and it's pursuits vs London's lifestyle. I loved the two main characters and all the historically correct information of the scientific pursuits and beliefs of the time. The children's antics were charmingly clever and a humorous addition to the storyline.

Interesting, lovely romance, good read and time very well spent. Recommend it highly and have already purchased several of the author's other books.

Great Ride! Enjoy!
I really enjoyed the first half of this book, the story line was great, the characters weren't your usual typical characters, the two of them getting to know one another was fun and believable.
Supporting characters were fun to read mainly the children, Ford's generosity and thoughtfulness was refreshing.
But the second part of the book was way too slow, Violet is very insecure, she doesn't believe any man would fall in love with her and so even after its clear to both of them that they are in love she keeps doubting his feelings and motive for wanting her, would be reasonable plot for a few chapters but half a book of this was just too much.
Overall I cared about the characters I finished the book and enjoyed it, could have been better.
Violet, Chase Family Series The Flowers Book 1 is a delightful romance by Lauren Royal. Ford Chase was dumped by his fiance and retreats to his rundown estate. He is saddled with the care of his niece Jewel when his brother's family comes down with the measles. His neighbor, Lady Chrystabel, sends her blue-stocking daughter Violet to accompany her brother Rowan when he comes to play with Jewel. Violet can see up close but her distance vision is horrid. Since Ford is so interested in scientific matters and has a lab at his estate, he works up a pair of spectacles for Violet to help her vision. She is thrilled to be able to see more clearly.
The more Ford and Violet see one another, the more attracted they become to one another, especially Ford in his feelings for Violet. She though has doubts as to whether he is more interested in her because of her inheritance or for herself. She has always thought herself too plain and never expected to marry. It is obvious Ford and Violet are suited for one another and he is sincere in his desire to marry her. Violet has a hard time deciding to trust him.
I found both the Chase and Ashcroft families were delightful and look forward to reading more works by Ms. Royal featuring the families.
Violet is a delight - smart, but insecure because she's not beautiful. Ford is incredibly intelligent, but not too smart about earning a living. No spoiler here - just let me say that their journey is so much fun. The interaction between the sisters is reminiscent of life with my own sisters. Ford's family makes a few appearances and their love for each other is charming. I'm looking forward to see if Jewel and Rowan end up together in about 15 years! Loved this story and now I'm ready for Book 6 in the Chase Family Series!
